Respect - Perfect was thought to be beyond help. With a incurable, degenerative diagnosis and a host of other grave issues, his body was at its breaking point.
Reimagine - Plenty of patience was required to carefully address each of Perfect’s obstacles one at a time - but, in doing so, we’ve been able to solve most of his issues. There was much more going on with him than what was immediately obvious.
Restore - Perfect is now happy, sound and better than ever. He loves being back to work and is a fantastic riding partner!
Respect - Petey’s life has been in danger on several occasions due to his chronic eye problems which eventually resulted in both of them having to be removed entirely.
Reimagine - His incredible intelligence and disposition give Petey huge advantages in dealing with his disability.
Restore - Petey lives a very happy and active life. A sanctuary favorite, he’s exceptionally friendly, loves attention and enjoys exercise.
Respect - Purchased out of a kill pen at only a few months old, Harry's well-intentioned rescuers soon found themselves overwhelmed with the unexpected needs and expenses of a miniature horse.
Reimagine - Harry came to us very young and, with careful maintenance, has been able to avoid many of the problems minis face.
Restore - Curious and enthusiastic by nature, Harry is always having fun. He loves talking to us and all of his other friends on the farm.
Respect - Approaching 40 years old, Jai is, by far, our sanctuary's oldest resident. Originally from Canada, he was rescued from severe neglect by another organization and adopted by a very special woman who has actively stood by him and entrusted us with the honor of his care for over 15 years.
Reimagine - Having lived mostly on his own for many years, Jai was frightened of people. He had been well cared for by his original rescuers - but, even so,when he first arrived his condition was alarming. Slow, steady and creative care was necessary for several years to fully get him back to a healthy baseline and he will always require more maintenance than most.
Restore - Jai is an absolute treasure. Despite his age, he is sassy, full of playful mischief and quite spry. He's remarkably intelligent and kind by nature and, over the years, he's developed excellent manners. Jai is still shy with strangers but, very affectionate and trusting with his regular handlers.
Respect - Charlie is a miniature Sicilian donkey. He is very typical of his breed with metabolic and hoof issues which require consistent management. Donkeys have much different personalities than horses do - and he is stereotypically stubborn - however, he is also very friendly (maybe too) clever. Another, often overlooked, donkey characteristic is that he exhibits is extreme fear and aggression towards dogs.
Reimagine - Charlie is Petey's "seeing eye donkey". They arrived here together but, weren't great friends for years - however, they have forged a special friendship. Charlie needs a highly specialized diet to maintain a healthy weight.
Restore - Like most donkeys, Charlie is stubborn - however, he is neither unreasonable nor mean, and his practical, good nature makes him an extremely pleasant and helpful companion for Petey and the rest of us. In the words of our farrier, he truly is "the king of the donkeys".
Respect - Tamborin is a 20+ year old retired dressage horse. He's had good regular care and maintenance and, like many performance horses, his connection with humans is a very important part of his life.
Reimagine - Even though Tamborin is in great shape, Tamborin had special needs as a performance horse and continues to require certain conditions to enjoy his retirement safely and happily.
Restore - Tamborin 's lifestyle has changed but, his needs haven't. He is still the same fun, athletic, emotional and highly people-oriented horse he's been his entire life. He loves his retirement and still gets plenty of safe exercise, mental stimulation and loads of affection from his favorite humans.
